TV INSIDER: 'Gilmore Girls' Love and Anger Emily Feimster Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel have been running things on the 'Gilmore Girls' for the last six seasons, but this year Scott Patterson's character, Luke, finally gets the girl! 'The build up over five years has finally come to fruition,' notes Patterson, whose character is currently engaged to Lorelai (Graham). 'In terms of Luke/Lorelai, the audience is probably not going to be used to those two characters being together, but I think it's what they always wanted.' That's not the only change happening on the WB series. 'I think the fans are also going to have to adjust to this fracture in this mother/daughter relationship that may or may not be repaired,' he says of Lorelai's estrangement from her daughter, Rory. Guess time will tell! When it comes to playing Luke, Patterson says they have a lot in common, but not everything. 'He has very strong opinions, I have very strong opinions. He doesn't suffer fools, I don't suffer fools either,' explains the actor. 'I do, however, love children and dogs, and apparently he does not. We were doing a scene the other night with some adorable little girls who were playing soccer players and they were having a little victory celebration in the diner and I was just having the best time with them.' In fact, there's not a whole lot he doesn't enjoy about his job -- except for the long hours. 'It just gets easier every year. We've been doing it for so long now that it feels like this is all we've ever done. Plus, it's nice having regular work,' he adds. Most importantly, though, Patterson appreciates what the show has to say. 'It says things off the cuff that haven't been said before in television. It's like a kinder, gentler 'All in the Family,'' he claims. 'I think it's absolutely brilliant. It would be terrific if the show continued, but if it didn't, it would be a long time before television saw something that unique and special. I just feel privileged to have been a part of it.' |
